paralleling the track
A navigational technique in which the heading of an aircraft is altered to produce a track parallel to the desired track. In this case, the heading of the aircraft is altered toward the desired track by the amount of track error, which will, in turn, alter the track made good by the same amount. The new track made good will then be parallel to the desired track but displaced from it.
